The Center for Vision & Values at Grove City College held its inaugural conference on April 4 & 5, 2005. The conference was titled "The Road From Poverty to Freedom: A Look Backward and Forward at The War on Poverty." Conference speakers and participants generated 12 original papers on the subject of poverty. The Center will be making those papers available online soon.
Guests from around the nation attended the conference. In addition, 103 Grove City College students listened to conference lectures as part of a one-hour course on poverty. Students were required to read the bound volume of the 12 papers (approximately 250 pages) attend a follow up lecture and take a test on the material.
In addition to a scholarly venture, the conference served as an inspiring time of building relationships between people from around the country and the world who are working to relieve poverty with biblical principles. We are already seeing those relationships beginning to bear fruit in addressing poverty issues.
The vision of The Center for Vision & Values is to educate the world about the transforming power of Christian faith and freedom. We will be launching our new web site soon. In the meantime, if you would like to learn more about the Center or if you would like to learn more about the poverty fighting relationships formed at the Center, please contact Lee Wishing at lswishing@gcc.edu or 724-458-3332. Dr. Paul Kengor, author of “God and Ronald Reagan” and “God and George W. Bush” has been named as executive director of the Center. He may be contacted at pgkengor@gcc.edu.
The Center for Vision & Values seeks to develop a vision of freedom and to foster Christian values.
